Elizabeth Jane Herron

Elizabeth Jane Herron (Betty), 93, of Hawthorne Woods, Washington, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in the Donnell House in Washington, surrounded by her family. She was born August 9, 1914, in Washington, a daughter of the late Samuel Carl and Nelle Mansfield Swartzfeger. Mrs. Herron was a member of Washington Alliance Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also involved for many years with Child Evangelism. Mrs. Herron was a homemaker. She was a real prayer warrior and especially loved being with her family. On February 3, 1934, she married Harold K. Herron in Wellsburg, WV, and they had 72 years together. He died July 26, 2006. Surviving are her children, a son, Samuel R. (Carol) Herron, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, his children, Matthew (Stephanie), Mark (Julie), and Tim Herron; two daughters, Marilyn A. Plants (Burson), of Claysville, her children, Mark (Pam) Plants, Carilee (Ron) Doran, Lorilee (Brian) Lemley, and Brian (Jennifer) Plants; and Susan J. Gifford (Richard), of Lynchburg, VA, her children, Troy Gifford, and Lynnea (Jonge) Tate. Great grandchildren are Brooke and Megan Plants, Mikayla and Noah Doran, Caleb and Jeremy Lemley, Austin and Emily Plants, Kallee, Kassidy and Bryce Herron, Tabor, Jordan, Cheritl and Moriah Tate. Surviving also is a sister, Anne K. Vankirk. Deceased are a daughter, Carolyn Nelle Herron; and two sisters, Nelle Morgan and Virginia Moody. Friends will be received Friday, March 7, 2008, noon to 2:00 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, with Rev. James Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
