Charles E. Phillips, 79, of Washington, died Friday, February 29, 2008, in Humbert Lane Nursing Facility.
He was born October 3, 1928, a son of the late William and Lucy Rawlins Phillips.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Army from October 26, 1945, until March 5, 1947.
He worked at Fairmont Supply for 35 years. In, 1974, Mr. Phillips was appointed shop foreman at the initial start-up of Tri State Maintenance and Repair Company in Waynesburg.
On March 8, 1979, he married Shirley Cummins, who survives.
His first wife, Jane Bennett Phillips, died August 14, 1972.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise R. Phillips of Charlotte, North Carolina; a step-son, Jack W. Horner, Jr. of Georgia; two step-daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Wunderlich, of Jasper, Indiana, and Janis (Craig) Kirchner, of Buford, Georgia; three grandchildren, China, Lacey and Britt; eleven step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one brother, William Phillips of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Kenneth and Earl; and four sisters, Leona Skinner, Flora Lemley, Florence McAdams and Lucy Beck.
Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m., the hour of service, Monday, March 3, 2008, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd. 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 60 East Maiden Street, Washington PA 15301.
