Worked for McVehil Plumbing, Heating Donald Eugene Murphy, 60, of Washington, died at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2002, in Donnell House, Washington, following a two-year illness. He was born July 27, 1942, in Washington, a son of Marjorie McDaid Murphy of Washington and the late Donald I. Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School and also attended a trade school for air conditioning and heating. He attended Fairhill Manor Christian Church and had been employed by McVehil Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Washington. Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 and was an officer of the Home Association. Mr. Murphy managed the Washington County Summer Pool League for four years. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and singing in several barber shop quartets. On February 11, 1978, he married Nancy Diane VanKirk, who survives Also surviving are two daughters, Tonia Murphy Campbell of Flat Rock, Mich., and Gena Murphy Ham of Vass, N.C.; two stepsons, George W. and Michael A. Kover, both of Washington; two sisters, Roberta Murphy Jackson of Amity and Joann Murphy Kuty of Washington; nine grandchildren, William R. and Eric A. Campbell, Hannah Dawn Murphy, Courtney and Carlin Ham, and the following adopted grandchildren, Tina M. Helmick and Kimberly D., Kelly M. and Jenna G. Kover; and several nieces and nephews. MURPHY - Friends of Donald Eugene Murphy of Washington, who died Thursday, August 29, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, with Pastor David Mansfield officiating. Interment will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 of Washington.
