Robert "Offy" Charles Mcdaniel

U.S. Army vet was longtime roofer for Langtree Roofing. Robert Charles "Offy" McDaniel, 57, of Washington, died at 6:19 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005, in the Washington Hospital emergency department, following an 8-month battle with cancer. He was born November 4, 1947, in Washington, a son of Robert L. Jr. and Helen Mocklin McDaniel of Washington. Mr. McDaniel worked for 20 years as a roofer for Langtree Roofing. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175, Washington. A Washington High School graduate, he served in the U.S. Army as an SP5 from 1966 to 1972, during which he served a year each in Vietnam and Germany. He enjoyed art, riding motorcycles, sports and shooting pool. Mr. McDaniel was a wonderfully unique man, a well-loved son, cherished father and adored grandfather. This hard-working man had a big heart. "Offy" was loved and befriended by all who knew him. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Nathan Lazar McDaniel and wife Linda of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, James McDaniel and wife Paula of Washington and Daniel (Luke) McDaniel of Beallsville; a sister, Susan Bonus and husband Edward of Washington; a grandchild, Ezekiel Shine McDaniel; a niece, Emily McDaniel; and three nephews, Michael Bonus and Lucas and Jimmy McDaniel. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, with the Rev. David Victoria Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 175.
