Charles L. Brookman

Charles L. Brookman, 80, of Washington, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 31, 2004, in his home. He was born in Mercer, on July 15, 1924, a son of Linn and Mariah Wolf Brookman. Mr. Brookman was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 Nose Gunner and Bombardier. He flew fifty missions over Romania, Munich, Vienna, Prague, and the Belchamer refinery in Germany. and received a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He once worked for Foster Dairy and later McCreath Dairy delivering milk. He was a retired Police Chief in North Franklin Township having served as such from 1961 - 1969, he had also been a Justice of the Peace in North Franklin from 1966 - 1972. Additionally, Mr. Brookman retired after working several years in the rolling mill at Washington Steel. He enjoyed spending winter in Naples, Florida, and watching his grand daughters play sports. Mr. Brookman was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion , and a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. On July 5, 1946, he married Esther M. Haught who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra Todaro of Washington and Cindy Brookman of Camden, South Carolina; his twin-brother, Paul Brookman of Washington; a sister, Leona Hogg of Washington; two grandchildren, Nicole Lynn and Lauren Noelle Todaro; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are a son, Michael Charles Brookman who died as an infant; two brothers, Earl and William Brookman; and three sisters, Mary Wolfe, Betty Barale, and Grace Gildow. Friends of Charles L. Brookman, 80, of Washington, who died unexpectedly on Friday, December 31, 2004, will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, where services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at 1:00 pm., with Rev. Larry Wiltrout officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Full military rights graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion. The family request memorial donations be made to; Washington Hospital Foundation, Wilson Avenue, Washington, or The Donnell House, Leet Street, Washington.
