Mary M Marasco

December 7, 1925 — January 24, 2008

Mary M. Marasco, also known as Mary Arena Marasco, 82, of Washington passed away January 24, 2008, at the Donnell House of the Washington Hospital, following a sudden, brief illness. Born December 7, 1925, in Washington, she was a daughter of Luigi and Rosina (Rose) Arena and was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School and attended Penn Commercial Business School. During World War II, she worked at the former Duncan Miller plant where she assisted in the war effort. Then she worked at the former Bell Telephone Company. After raising her three children, she found a wonderful position in student resident housing at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing, supporting nurses-in-training until 1988. Mary and her deceased husband, Eugene enjoyed sharing with, entertaining and encouraging people, such as those affiliated with the Gideons’ International, Campus Life/Youth For Christ, Child Evangelism Fellowship and her church members. She was a long-term member of the Christian Church of North America and more recently, of the Washington Alliance Church. She was known to her grandchildren as a devoted grandmother, cheering them on in their sports and shooting baskets with them as recently as the fall of 2007. Her surviving children are Dennis (Jane) Marasco of Greenland, NH, Dawna Andrew of Macomb, IL and Duane (Jan) Marasco of Washington. She has eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Amber) Marasco, of Cincinnati, OH, Scott (Helen) Marasco, of Bangor, ME, Cara and Noel Andrew of Macomb, IL, Christopher, Brendan, Benjamin and Matthew Marasco of Washington. She also has five great grandchildren: Hannah, Zeke, Gianna, Nora and Evelyn. Additional survivors are four of her siblings: Patrick Arena of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Terri Gross of Anchorage, AK, Thomas Arena of Jacksonville, FL and Jean Wagner of Fort Walton Beach, FL. Deceased are her brother, Dominic Arena formerly of Tampa, FL and her beloved husband of 35 years, Eugene Marasco also of Washington. Friends will be received noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008, with the Rev. C.D. Croscutt officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Gideons’ International, c/o Clive Phillips, 1616 Ridgewood, Washington, PA 15301, or Washington Alliance Church, 246 Sanitarium Road, Washington, PA 15301.
