Lowell Thomas Frankenbery

Graphic artist from Eighty Four Lowell T. Frankenbery, 74, of Eighty Four, died at 2:09 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born January 25, 1933, in Uniontown, a son of Jay Donald and Margaret Pascoe Frankenbery. Mr. Frankenbery attended Uniontown High School, the University of Denver, Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was employed for 39 years as a graphic arts director for Kaufmann's department store in Pittsburgh until his retirement. Mr. Frankenbery was a Korean War veteran. He served in the Air Force from July 13, 1951, until his honorable discharge July 12, 1955, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fairchance and a member of AMVETS. Mr. Frankenbery was a handyman who enjoyed woodworking in his retirement, mostly making grandfather clocks of various sizes. He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Uniontown, and attended Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church in Eighty Four. On August 21, 1955, he married N. Fay Goodwin, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Maj. Kenneth T. Frankenbery of Aliquippa and David A. (Tina) Frankenbery of Custer, S.D.; three brothers, Wendell (Josie) Frankenbery of Reno, Nev., Lloyd Morris (Leona) Frankenbery of Seattle, Wash., and Blaine (Bea) Frankenbery of Mantua, Ohio; and two sisters, Lois Podvia and Ellen (Bud) Johnson, both of Hopwood. Deceased are four brothers, Lee Roy, Jay, Charles Porter and Richard. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, with the Rev. Rod Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in Pigeon Creek Church Cemetery, Eighty Four. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
