Earl R. "Pete" Young, 78, of Washington, died Friday, December 24, 2004, in the Washington Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Amity on October 20, 1926, a son of Oscar Wilson and Annie Heidelmeier Young. He had attended Trinity schools, and was a United States Navy Veteran having served in World War II and receiving the Pacific Theater and Pacific Theater Ribbons as well as the World War II Victory Medal.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Young worked five years for Suwak Trucking as a mechanic. He had been a longtime self-employed truck mechanic before that time at various locations since the early 1950�s.
Mr. Young was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion. He was a 33rd degree Mason, a member of Sunset Lodge # 623, F. & A.M. where he was a past master and very involved in the scholarship fund raising for local seniors, a member of the Valley of Coudersport and past thrice Potent Master. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as motorcycles. For several years he had spent winters in Arizona and actively prospected for gold in the West.
Mr. Young was a member of the Laboratory Presbyterian Church having served as an Elder.
On April 17, 1949, he married Verenia Walter, who died on November 17, 1998.
Surviving are a son, Kevin Walter Young and his wife, Marti Milan, of Washington; two sisters, Agnes Powell and Elma "Marty" Barnhart, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Keith, Clark, and Karley Young.
Preceding him in death are a son, Steven Wilson Young; and four brothers, Charles A., George W., Paul A., and William O. Young.
Friends of Earl R. "Pete" Young, 78, of Washington, who died Friday, December 24, 2004, will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at 11:00 am, Rev. David Stammerjohn officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full Military Honors graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, American Legion.
