James Hill, 78, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in the Washington County Health Center. He was born on October 7, 1924, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son of Andrew and Viola Summerhill Hill. he was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School, was a World War II veteran, and worked as a manager of Sun Flooring. Mr. Hill also worked in sales at Sharps Furniture, Goodwill Industries and the City Mission. He was a member of the Liberty United Methodist church and had served as organist for a period of seven years. Mr. Hill had been active in the Lions Club.
On June 7, 1959, he married Joan Marie Stillwell who survives. Also surviving are a son Donald Reed, of Toronto of Ohio, a daughter Kathy Hill of Washington, and three grandchildren, Chrissy Hill, Amy and Donald Reed.
Mr. Hill is preceded in death by a brother Wray Hill and a sister Olive Lou Covington.
At the request of the be deceased, no public visitation will be held. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 7:00 PM in the Liberty United Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington, Rev. Larry G. Wiltrout officiating. The family requests memorial donations to Liberty United Methodist Church Music Fund.
