Alta Belle Dornan

Alta Belle Dornan, 92, of Washington, died Monday, August 4, 2008, in Washington County Health Center, following a two-year illness. She was born September 18, 1915, in Cecil, a daughter of Herbert B. and Anna Howe Caster Russell. Mrs. Dornan worked as a clerk at J. C. Penney. She was a member of Chartier’s Crossroads United Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the church choir, helped with Bible School and with Home Groups for Youth For Christ, for a period of time. For several years, she was a member of Gretna Grange, where she played the piano. She was also a volunteer at Washington Hospital for several years. On December 26, 1933, she married Robert Alvin Dornan, who died October 27, 1988. Surviving are a son, Robert Paul Dornan, Sr., of Washington, and Janice Marie (Neal Edward) Roth, of McMurray, and five grandchildren, Neal Edward Roth, Jr., Robert Paul Dornan, Jr, Eric David Dornan, Brian Joseph Dornan, and Jason Wayne Dornan. Deceased are three brothers, Herb, Merle, and Paul Russell, and two sisters, Velma Descutner and Alice Williamson; and a grandson, Paul Robert Roth. Friends will be received 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008, with Rev. Barry Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.
