Charles A. Chapman, 82, of South Franklin Township, died at 2:17 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2002, in Washington Hospital, following a six-month illness.
He was born June 24, 1920, in Washington, a son of Russell and Floa Littell Chapman.
Mr. Chapman was a laborer for Robinson Pipe for more than 18 years and was later a self-employed gardener.
He was a member of Friendship Community Church of Washington, Disabled American Veterans and Taylorstown American Legion Post 907.
Mr. Chapman served with the U.S. Army 18th Infantry Regiment, Third Battalion, in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia and Sicily. He received a Silver Star and European- African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with three bronze stars.
On May 9, 1947, he married Hazel May Simms, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Leroy Bert Dinch of Washington; two brothers, Russell Jr. and Thomas M. Chapman, both of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; two sisters, Emma B. Angott of Prosperity and Imogene Crain of Washington; and two grandchildren, Christina Louise and Michele Rene Dinch.
Deceased are two brothers, Herman W. and Robert D. Chapman; two sisters, Norma Arlene Chapman and Mavoureen Tilton; and a grandson, David Lee Dinch.
CHAPMAN - Friends of Charles A. Chapman of South Franklin Township, who died Thursday, August 15, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 19, with the Rev. Floyd Marosco officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded at graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 of Washington.
