Joseph Paul Chropek

Enjoyed horse racing and photography Joseph P. Chropek, 86, of Arden, died Friday, August 9, 2002, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born December 26, 1915, in Pittsburgh, a son of Lawrence and Julia Radon Chropek. Mr. Chropek had attended Chartiers schools. He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Chropek worked as a miner at Pittsburgh Consolidated Coal for 18 years, Federal Paper for 18 years and The Meadows racetrack and Meadow Lands Farm for more than 10 years. He enjoyed horse racing and photography and was a member of Washington Camera Club and a life member of Arden Athletic Club. On February 15, 1936, he married Ida Reck, who died July 12, 1984. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Margo Thomas of Arden and Judith Zanolli of Meadow Lands; a brother, Frank Przystup of Arden; four sisters, Josephine Hess of Arden, Stella Miller of Chartiers Township and Julie Alexy and Frances Wood, both of Arden; nine grandchildren, Maria Thomas, Lisa Rockey, Catherine and Jonathan Thomas, Damian and David Zanolli and David, Paul and Aric Chropek; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, David Chropek; a brother, Stanley Chropek; two stepbrothers, John and Thomas Przystup; a sister, Veronica Chropek; and a stepsister, Nellie Przystup. CHROPEK - Friends of Joseph P. Chropek of Arden, who died Friday, August 9, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 12, at St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
