James Andrew Reed, 77, of Claysville, died at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington, following a five-year illness.
He was born October 12, 1925, in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of Samuel K. and Ether Huster Reed.
Mr. Reed was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon.
He was employed by Kobacker Shoe Co. as a manager and had been employed at Pickway in Washington and St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Mr. Reed was a 1943 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Penn Commercial.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps as a radioman on a PBY in Puerto Rico, where he received the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.
On July 2, 1950, he married Frances Louann Phillips, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, William James Reed of Allen, Texas, and Jeffrey L. and Randy S. Reed, both of Sugarland, Texas; a daughter, Juanita L. Montalvo of Fredericksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Wody, Sam, Cody and Victoria Reed, and Ashli and Adam Montalvo; a stepgrandson, Colby McCaslin; and a stepgreat-granddaughter.
Deceased are a sister, Betty L. Barney; and twin sisters who died at birth.
REED - Friends of James Andrew Reed of Claysville, who died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, will be received from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, with the Rev. David Mansfield and the Rev. Patricia Rizor officiating. Private interment will be in Washington Cemetery.
