Rudolph Victor Stolfer

Former Washington High School teacher Rudolph Victor Stolfer, 83, of Washington, died Monday, July 22, 2002, in Carrington Park, Ashtabula, Ohio, following a 22-month illness. He was born January 24, 1919, in Washington, a son of Rudolph C. and Anna Lackvitch Stolfer. Mr. Stolfer was a member of First Lutheran Church in Washington. He was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School and received his master's degree from California University. Mr. Stolfer served during World War II in the U.S. Army with the 79th Division, 314th Regiment, in the European Theater in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, Good Conduct Metal, Silver Star, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He was an industrial arts teacher for 35 years at Washington High School, where he also was a football coach. Mr. Stolfer was a life member of Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and California Alumni Association. He was a member of Amwell Township Volunteer Fire Department, Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175, Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM, Royal Arch Chapter 150 and Council 1. Mr. Stolfer was a WPIAL basketball and football official and a scorer and timer for Washington & Jefferson College. On May 29, 1946, he married Gertrude Mera, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rudolph V. Stolfer Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Gregory S. Stolfer of Ashtabula, Ohio; a daughter, April Stolfer Jones of Wheeling, W.Va.; a brother, James Stolfer of Washington; a sister, Sally Martin of Washington; and five grandchildren, Rob and Ian Jones, and Gregory, Emily and Matthew Stolfer. Deceased are a sister, Judy Hannam; and three brothers, Robert, John and Richard Stolfer. STOLFER - Friends of Rudolph Victor Stolfer of Washington, who died Monday, July 22, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, in First Lutheran Church, North Franklin and Walnut streets, Washington, with the Rev. Kenneth N. Schott officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded at graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 in Washington. The family suggests memorials to First Lutheran Church or Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department. Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, and Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, both in the funeral home.
