Pittsburgh Industrial Furnace chief engineer
John Salamay, 64, of Washington, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Lavonia, Mich.
He was born July 20, 1938, in Monaca, a son of Anthony and Anne Tymchuck Salamay.
Mr. Salamay was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington.
He was a 1956 graduate of St. Veronica High School and attended Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, College of Steubenville, where he received his teaching certificate, and St. Frances of Loretta College.
Mr. Salamay was chief engineer for Pittsburgh Industrial Furnace Co. in Pittsburgh.
He was a member of Alpine Star Lodge and Engineering Society of America. He was licensed as an engineer in three states.
Mr. Salamay taught in Jefferson Union High School in Wintersville, Ohio, where he was head of the science department, and in St. Anthony High School in Follansbee, W.Va.
On June 4, 1960, he married Mary Basile, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Anthony John Salamay of Gahanna, Ohio, and John Joseph Salamay of Plymouth, Mich.; three daughters, Anne Holmes of Washington, Margaret Stewart of Westerville, Ohio, and Kathleen Wakenell of Canton, Mich.; a sister, Bonnie Newman of New Baltimore, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Ryan and Michael Rush, Cady Holmes, Nathan, Noah and Natalie Stewart, and Christopher, Emily, Matthew and Andrew Wakenell; a niece and a nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
SALAMAY - Friends of John Salamay of Washington, who died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. John Forbidussi as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
