Grace A. Oliver, 83 of Washington, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Washington County Health Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in West Middletown, a daughter of Lemual and Eva McClelland Cooke. Mrs. Oliver once worked as a personal care giver for Resnick, Inc. and later worked for Truman’s Department Store.
She was a member of the St. Paul AME Church where she was a former member of Busy Bee’s, Pastors Aides, and served on the Stewardess Board. Mrs. Oliver was also a former member of Eastern Star.
She was married to John Oliver who died in April, 1968. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Thomas of Washington; a sister, Beatrice Hampton of Canton, Ohio; three grandsons, Landon, Louis and Erik Thomas; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Oliver in death are five sisters, Viola Asbury, Katherine Backie, Frances Cooke, Gladys Dickerson, and Pearl Woodson; a brother, William Cooke, and a great-grandchild.
Friends of Grace A. Oliver, of Washington, who died on died Sunday, May 4, 2003 will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM, the time of services, in St. Paul AME Church, 16 Ridge Avenue, Washington. Rev. Bruce Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
