John Edwin Minnis, Jr., 61, of Washington, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, in his home following a three-month illness. He was born in Washington on October 22, 1943, a son of the late John and Florence Buela Cottrial Minnis, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Minnis had worked in the maintenance department at Washington & Jefferson College for the last thirteen years.
He was a lifelong member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had sponsored many people, he founded the Alcoholics Anonymous programs at both the Washington County Jail and the Waynesburg Prison .
On October 28, 1967, he married Cathy Hayes Simon who survives. Also surviving are a son, Brian John Minnis of Washington, and two grandchildren, Emma Hayes Minnis and Kimberleigh Morgan Minnis.
