Elizabeth Patterson Farner Markish, 97, of Hickory, died Friday, March 28, 2003, following an illness of two and a half years.
She was born July 29, 1905, in Burgettstown, a daughter of James Matthew and O'Ella Mont Neil Farner.
Mrs. Markish was a retired telephone operator for Hickory-Woodrow Telephone Co.
She was a member of Atlasburg Church of the Nazarene, where she was the organist and pianist for many years.
Mrs. Markish was past chief of Grand Temple Pythias Sisters of the Grand Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania and a member of Pride of Silver Cliff Musicians.
Her first husband, Charles Lyons of Florence, died during their first year of marriage.
In 1927, she married John Markish, who died in May 1948.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Carlisle of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Samuel Edward Markish of Burgettstown and Thomas Audley Markish of Bulger; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three sons, James Joseph Markish, who died in 1975; David Albert Markish, who died in 1996; and John Markish Jr., who died in 2002.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Services and interment will be private, with Pastor Douglas R. Keith officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
