1924 graduate of Claysville High School Frances Genevieve Carter Gardei Sullivan, 96, of San Leandro, Calif., died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Bay Point Healthcare Center, Hayward, Calif. She was born November 11, 1906, in Taylorstown, the seventh of eight children born to Albert Francis and Etta Jane Carter, and she was the last to survive. Mrs. Sullivan was raised in Claysville, where she graduated from Claysville High School in 1924. In 1925, she married Thomas Jefferson Gardei of Washington and raised her four children, Louis, Rosemary, Marjorie and Jacqueline. Widowed in 1948, she married Lee Sullivan in 1953 and moved to the state of California. Except for the period of 1968 to 1976, when she again took up residence in her native state, she spent the rest of her life in California. Mrs. Sullivan was an enthusiastic gardener and maintained a keen interest in antiques, objects which, especially in her later years, afforded her a great deal of pleasure and in whose dating and evaluation she had developed considerable skill. Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary Edwards of San Leandro and Jacqueline Milligan of Edmonton, Canada; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SULLIVAN - Friends of Frances Genevieve Carter Gardei Sullivan of San Leandro, Calif., who died Thursday, March 13, 2003, will be received from 9 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Saturday, March 22, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
