Decorated WWII veteran was accountant
Walter B. "Bud" Rowland, 77, of Washington, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2003, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 8, 1925, in Washington, a son of E.G. "Bud" and Agnes Stover Rowland.
Mr. Rowland was a graduate of Washington High School and Waynesburg College.
He was a certified public accountant and had been employed by several national accounting firms and Clark & Co. He also was self-employed.
Mr. Rowland taught accounting at Penn Commercial business college and was treasurer of First Federal Savings and Loan in Washington.
He was active in several civic clubs, member of Elks Lodge 776, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion, Arms Club and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater and Rhineland Campaign, where he received an Expert Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, European-American-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Bronze Service Star for the Rhineland Campaign and Good Conduct Medal.
On February 26, 1949, he married Mary Wagner, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Speicher of Johnstown, Nancy Mosser of Morgantown, W.Va., and Susan Featherston of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Nancy Joswick of Lower Burrell, Joanne Andrews of Washington and Kate Palmer of San Francisco, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Kristen and Stanley Speicher, Emily and Nicholas Featherston and Kate and Ryan Mosser
Deceased is a brother, Ewart Rowland.
ROWLAND - Friends of Walter B. "Bud" Rowland of Washington, who died Sunday, February 16, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, with the Rev. Matthew Frye officiating. Interment in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Support Group, c/o Malcolm Fullum, 736 Woodlawn Drive, Houston, PA 15342. Military rites will be conducted graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of American Legion.
