Metro Podolek, 83, of Washington, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, in Canonsburg Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 18, 1924, a son of Anthony and Cecelia Polynick Podolec.
Mr. Podolek attended Washington High School, then worked at Tygart Valley Glass Company in Washington, before entering the U.S. Navy April 5, 1943, serving during World War II, in the Pacific Theater, with the Third Amphibious Forces. He was Honorably Discharged May 23, 1945.
He was manager at A&P Supermarket for 33 years and had worked at Industrial Gasket and Shim Company, Inc.
Mr. Podolek was a beloved father, who was an avid hunter and enjoyed golf. He was a member of Pulaski Club.
His first wife, Rita Mercedes Mollanauer, whom he married January 1, 1948, died March 16, 1979.
On December 15, 1979, he married Dolores V. Mele Podolek, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mark A. Podolek, of Washington, Michael R. (Cherie) Podolek, of Henryville, and David Miller, of Washington; two daughters, Antionette M. (Joseph) Schmitz, of Odenton, MD, and Deborah (Charles) Browl, of Carmichaels; a sister, Olga Gray, of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Amy, Kevin, Matthew, Nick, Hope, Tyler, Ryan, Suzanne, Michelle, Holly and Christa; and a great grandson, Warren.
Deceased is a brother, Peter Podolec.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Private family visitation will be held Wednesday morning, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington, with Father Thomas D. O’Neil, as celebrant. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
