Former employee of J&L Steel Corp. Ernest "Dutch" Johnson, 80, of Washington, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born March 24, 1924, in Claysville, a son of Steven A. and Hazel Woodruff Johnson. Mr. Johnson worked for more than 23 years at J&L Steel Corp. He was a member of the Teamsters 585 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On April 28, 1944, he married Martha Klages, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Frank A. Johnson of Washington; a daughter, Linda L. Dire of West Middletown; two brothers, Robert and Melvin Johnson, both of Washington; four sisters, Louise Hoff of Columbiana, Ala., and Marie Farley, Jane Bishop and Leone Linton, all of Washington; four grandchildren, Frank Jr. and Tim Johnson, Heather Umphreys and Lee Chestnut; and five great grandchildren. Deceased are four brothers, George, Charles, Delbert and Clarence "Bud" Johnson; and a sister, Loretta Shannor. JOHNSON - Friends of Ernest "Dutch" Johnson, of Washington who died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, with the Rev. Joseph Schiren officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
