Edna F. Fonner Erb Mccaffrey

Bell Telephone retiree and member of IC Church Edna F. McCaffrey, 88, of Washington, died Monday, February 3, 2003, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness. She was born June 26, 1914, in Washington, a daughter of John A. and Mary Ann Lee Fonner. Prior to retirement, Mrs. McCaffrey worked for more than 28 years as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of Bell Telephone's 10-year Club and Pioneers of American, Fort Pitt Chapter. Mrs. McCaffrey was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington, and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was one of the first residents to occupy Bellmead Apartments, and had volunteered at Presbyterian Senior Care, both in Washington. She enjoyed doing crafts and traveling. Mrs. McCaffrey was twice married. Her first husband, Leroy Erb, died in 1955. She later married John McCaffrey, who died in 1983. Surviving are a daughter, Eileen Caldwell of Monongahela; a grandson, Ray Reese; and a brother, Francis Fonner of Washington. Deceased are seven brothers, Charles, Donald, James, John, Robert, Raymond and William Fonner; and five sisters, Helen Verderber, Margaret Engle, Elizabeth (Betty) Humbert and Anna Lee and Mary Ann Fonner, who both died in infancy. McCAFFREY - Friends of Edna F. McCaffrey of Washington, who died Monday, February 3, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 6, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with the Rev. John Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington. The Christian Mothers of Immaculate Conception Church will recite the rosary at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
