Eleanor G. Salsberry Wood, 82, of Washington, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003, in Manor Care Nursing Home, McMurray, following a lengthy illness.
She was born February 14, 1920, in Washington, a daughter of Herbert Elvin (Dutch) and Bertha Agnes Peas Salsberry.
Mrs. Wood was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, Washington, and was a cook in various nursing homes in Arizona and at Washington Hospital.
She was a volunteer for Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, and was the chairman of the welcome committee at Bellmeade.
Mrs. Wood attended Trinity High School.
On September 28, 1969, she married John W. Wood Sr., who died in September 1987.
Surviving are a stepson, John W. Wood Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Marlene Montgomery Harrington of Boise, Ariz., Joyce Hammond of Washington, and Sharon Cox of Amity; two brothers, Lloyd P. Salsberry of Washington and Duane Salsberry of Corpus Cristi, Texas; two sisters, Nila Mae Mounts of Washington and Vivian Holden of Calumet City, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a great-granddaughter, Ashley Fordyce; a daughter, Donna Jean Gaus, who died in March 1999; two brothers, Elvin L. and Kenneth E. Salsberry; and two stepdaughters, Sharon Ellen Lux and Shirley Benson.
WOOD - Friends of Eleanor G. Salsberry Wood of Washington, who died Saturday, February 1, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., the time of services, Tuesday, February 4, in Abundant Life Baptist Church, Washington, with the Rev. Paul Harrington officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
