Avid fan of Pirates and Steelers
Edward Charles Mellars Sr., 75, of Washington, died at 10:14 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Washington Hospital, after a five-year illness.
He was born November 19, 1928, in Washington, a son of Edward Charles and Nora Raipe Mellars.
Mr. Mellars was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
He was a 1946 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School.
Mr. Mellars enlisted in the Marines April 29, 1946, served with the Atlantic Fleet and was discharged December 1, 1947, with a Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Jessop Club, LOOM 22, Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175, Hawkins Post Home 927 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Keystone Club.
Mr. Mellars was an enthusiastic dartball player and enjoyed the Pirates and Steelers.
On October 5, 1949, he married Helen Marie "PeWee" Hutter, who died January 27, 1985.
Surviving are two sons, Edward and John Mellars, both of Washington; two sisters, Sharon and Darla Mellars, both of Washington; a sister, Jane Mellars of Washington, with whom he made his home; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Stacie, Jessica, Lindsay, Cody, Shannon and Shane; and three great-grandchildren.
