Edwin Wylie Piatt WW II veteran retired from Washington Steel Edwin Wylie Piatt, 85, of Washington, died at 8:08 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2002, in his home. He was born July 23, 1916, in Ruff Creek, a son of John W. and Catherine Elizabeth Tharp Piatt. Prior to retirement, Mr. Piatt was employed for 19 years at Washington Steel and previously worked at Nickles Bakery. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 and a life member of Hawkins Post Home 927 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. During World War II, Mr. Piatt served in the Medical Detachment of the 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Division in Rhineland and Central Europe. He received a bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars and World War II Victory Medal. His companion was Ruth Beatty of Washington, with whom he made his home. Surviving are a son, Ralph Edwin Piatt of Washington; four grandchildren, Donald, Daniel, Dennis and David Piatt; and 12 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, John Piatt; and a sister, Lillian. PIATT - At the request of the deceased, Edwin Wylie Piatt of Washington, who died Monday, April 22, 2002, there will be no public visitation. Services and burial in Washington Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
