Former Canton Township schoolteacher Thelma M. Lang, 88, of Cranford, N.J., died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, in her home. She was born June 4, 1913, in Buffalo Township, a daughter of James Alexander and Emma Mounts McLoney. Mrs. Lang was a graduate of Indiana Normal School, where she received her teaching certificate. She studied public speaking at Byron King School of Oratory in Pittsburgh. She was a schoolteacher in Canton Township schools for eight years, until her retirement in 1940. Mrs. Lang lived in Harrisburg, Newport News, Va., and Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Cranford in 1948. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, where she served as an elder, deacon, past president of Margaret Green Association and as a member of the Couples Club. She also was a member of Cranford Historical Society and member and past president of Wednesday Morning Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, William H. Lang, died in 1970. Surviving are a son, James H. Lang of Newton Square; and four grandchildren. Deceased are three sisters, Grace M. Moore, Gertrude Richardson and Margaret Grein. LANG - Friends of Thelma M. Lang of Cranford, N.J., who died Saturday, June 1, 2002, will be received from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the hour of service, Thursday, June 6, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Lesley Shoup officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
