Co-owner of Paletta's Market in Washington
Frank Louis Paletta, 79, of Washington, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 19, 1922, in Washington, a son of Tony and Rose Gualteri Paletta.
Mr. Paletta was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School and a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church in Washington.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital apprentice first class on Iwo Jima and received a Purple Heart and five service medals.
Mr. Paletta was a self-employed grocer and partner, with his brother John, in Paletta's Market on Jefferson Avenue, Washington, until his retirement in 1987.
He was a life member of Italian Sons and Daughters of America and a member of Alpine Star Lodge 9 in Washington, American Legion Post 175 of Washington and Washington's Grocers Association.
On October 31, 1948, he married Betty Hall, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Rosemary, Karen and Pamela Paletta, and Kimberly Sibert, all of Washington, and Lisa Paletta of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Anthony and Danny Sibert; and a sister, Clara Carrick of New York.
Deceased are two brothers, Anthony and John Paletta.
Services were held Wednesday, May 22, in St. Hilary Church, with the Rev. John Forbidussi as celebrant. Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Arrangements were under the direction of William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to John F. Kennedy School Scholarship Fund, 111 West Bruce Street, Washington, PA 15301.
