Restaurateur worked at Herd's Drug Store
Helen Marie Carter, 76, of Washington, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Washington Hospital, following a three-week illness.
She was born January 23, 1927, in Perth Amboy, N.J., a daughter of Sebastian and Anna Hoffenpradel Szeg.
With her husband, Mrs. Carter owned and operated Town and Country Restaurant and Greentree Restaurant and Lounge. She also had worked as a cashier at Herd's Drug Store.
On August 5, 1945, she married John Paul Carter, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Richard Brice Carter of Washington, John Paul Carter Jr. of Arvada, Colo., and Gregory Mitchell Carter of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a daughter, Patricia Ann Sprowls of Washington; a brother, Louis Szeg of Saddle Brook, N.J.; a sister, Mary Basilici of Perth Amboy; six grandchildren, Cana, Mitchell and Rylee Carter, Lisa Scott, Leslie Cochran and George Cody Sprowls; and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Frank Szeg, and one who died in infancy; and a sister, Anna Orenchek.
Private services and burial were held at the family's convenience. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Western Pennsylvania Chapter of National Hemophilia Foundation, 532 South Aiken Avenue, Suite 102, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
