Joseph Ira Patterson, 79, of Washington, died Monday, July 4, 2005, in the Washington Hospital following a three year illness. He was born in Cecil Township on July 24, 1925, a son of William C. and Estlle Bush Patterson.
Mr. Patterson had served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post in Canonsburg. He attended the Friendship Community Church in Washington for several years.
Mr. Patterson retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1976 after having worked more than 26 years in various positions. He most recently worked at Giant Eagle. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and yard work.
In 1949 he married Nadine Dawson who died in January 1985.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald L. Patterson of Pittsburgh and Joseph I. Patterson, Jr., of Bridgeville; three brothers, Norman Patterson of Washington, John Patterson of Cecil, and Quinton Patterson of Upper St. Clair; several grandchildren as well as three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are; a daughter who died as an infant; three brothers, William, Leroy, and James Patterson; and one sister, Sarah Mary Patterson.
Friends of Joseph Ira Patterson, 79, of Washington, who died Monday, July 4, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2005, at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
