Harry Paul Maust

November 18, 1919 — January 21, 2008

Harry Paul Maust, 88, of Washington, died Monday, January 21, 2008, in The Washington Hospital. He was born November 18, 1919, in McDonald, a son of Harry P. and Catherine Grimes Maust. He attended Seventh Ward School and Washington High School. During World War II, Mr. Maust served in Europe with the United States Army, 28th Division, 110th Infantry, Companies H and M, as a staff sergeant. For his service, he was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, American Defense Service Medal, European Theater Ribbon, a Regimental Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, Combat Infantry Badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button, and battles stars for the Normandy Campaign, Northern France Campaign and Rhineland Campaign. He was honorably discharged on September 4, 1945. Mr. Maust worked for West Penn Power Co. and as a teamster’s chauffeur and helper for local 585. He also was a retired inspector for the Washington Fire Department. Mr. Maust was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, BPOE #776, 28th Division, 110th Infantry Association of World War II, a life member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, a life member of Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of International Municipal Signal Association. On May 25, 1946, he married Jeannetta Ruth Horner, who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Virginia Nicastro of Washington. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2008, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Father Nicholas Spirko as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
