George Gredesky
WWII veteran was honored for service in France.
George Gredesky, 91, formerly of Washington, died Monday, September 27, 2004, in Port Orange, Fla., surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 27, 1912, in Ronco. Mr. Gredesky, a building contractor, and his late wife, Irene, moved to Port Orange in 1977. A World War II veteran, he served in Europe with the 290th Combat Engineers and received two battle stars and La Medaille from the French government for service in the Battle at the Rhine and Danube rivers. In 2001, French authorities presented him with a thank-you certificate for his participation in the liberation of France. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans of Daytona Beach and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Port Orange. He was an avid fisherman and boater, and in his later years, to the delight of his friends and family, he became a gourmet cook. He leaves behind a friend, Grace Cumming of Port Orange. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rita and Mike McNamara of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Monica Kelley of Port Orange and Caroline and Jim Archer of Olympia, Wash.; five grandchildren, Maura McNamara of Saratoga Springs, Tim McNamara and wife, Heather, of San Diego, Calif., Eileen McNamara of Schroon Lake, N.Y., Julie Bailey and husband, Clif, of Euless, Texas, and Kirsten Davy and husband, Mike, of Washougal, Wash.; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 4, in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL.
