Former beautician, seamstress enjoyed crocheting
Catherine E. Hixon, 84, of Washington, died at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a two-month illness.
She was born April 21, 1922, in Bunola, a daughter of Roy and Stella Opher Beam.
A 1940 graduate of Monongahela High School, she attended cosmetology school and previously worked as a beautician.
She was a seamstress for African Apparel, worked in sales at J.C. Penney and Kmart stores and was a greeter at Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Hixon enjoyed crocheting and flowers and loved to square dance.
She was a member of Church of the Covenant, Washington.
On June 15, 1946, she married Duane K. Hixon, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Eugene R.D. (Gene) Hixon and wife Debbie of Eighty Four; three daughters, the Rev. Reppa Cottrell and husband Daniel of North Scituate, R.I., Irene Batove and husband Jim of Washington and Barbara (Bobbie) Lucas and husband Denny of Cross Creek; nine grandchildren, April E. and J.D. Batove, Cerra I. Coddington, Joshua and Rachel Cottrell, Christopher, Lisa, and Brenda Lucas and Heather Hixon.
Deceased is her twin sister, Hazel Dolanch.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, with the Rev. Roger Raymond Fischer officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. The family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice.
