Louis Robert Baumgartner

Longtime employee of McGraw-Edison. Louis Robert Baumgartner, 78, of Washington, died at 1:59 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He had been in declining health for four years. He was born February 19, 1929, in Washington, a son of Joseph and Catherine Spitzner Baumgartner. On March 21, 1951, he entered the Army, serving during the Korean conflict, and was discharged March 16, 1953. Mr. Baumgartner was Catholic. For more than 35 years, he was employed at McGraw Edison, Canonsburg, as an assembler. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191. Mr. Baumgartner enjoyed gardening, fishing and the outdoors. He especially loved his dogs. On March 23, 1977, he married Merrill A. Wilson, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Donnie Baumgartner of West Alexander; a sister, Marie Paladino of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Darsell and Deana Baumgartner; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Dearing. Deceased are six brothers, Joseph, Jack, Robert, Raymond, Irvin and James Baumgartner, and two sisters, Catherine Dernosic and Betty Jane Ferguson. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, with the Rev. Roger Raymond Fischer officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion. The family suggests memorial contributions to ALS Foundation.
