Frank L. Auld

Frank L. Auld, 96,of Washington, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born October 18, 1910, in South Franklin Township, a son of Mont and Bertha Auld. He lived all of his life in Washington County. Mr. Auld was a 1931 graduate of Morris Township High School and a 1935 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. In 1941, he was drafted into the United States Army during the first draft from Washington County for World War II. He served four years and four months in the European Theater with the 62nd Topographical Engineers, where he took place in the D-Day Invasion. He also served a three-month detached service with the U.S. Navy in Bizert, Africa. Mr. Auld worked as a surveyor and inspector for the PA Department of Highways, Uniontown, District 12, and worked for the PA Turnpike Commission until the turnpike’s completion. He later worked for West Penn Power Electric Company for 13 years in the engineering department, becoming a registered engineer. Mr. Auld retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, District 11, Pittsburgh. Mr. Auld was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and fruit trees. His first wife, Emily Myers Auld is deceased. On November 15, 1989, he married Dorothy Litman Dunham, who survives. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Deceased is an infant brother. Friends will be received 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
