Ashley Kay Bruce, 17, of Avella, died Saturday, August 21, 2004, in Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness. She was born in Washington on June 22, 1987, a daughter of Donald L. and Sandra Forney Bruce, Jr. Ashley was a senior at Avella High School where she was active in the Marching Band, Concert Band, Concert Choir, School Musicals, Community Caring, and had always maintained her place on the Honor Roll. Additionally, she enjoyed art and drawing, her dog and cat, had been active in the Make-a Wish Foundation as well as the Leukemia Society, and the One Way Café at the Grove United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her Maternal Grandparents, James A. and Delilah Forney of Washington; Paternal Grandmother, Elizabeth Bruce of Washington; Paternal Great-Grandfather Harry Keeler of Washington; a brother Joel J. Halmi of Pittsburgh; two sisters Rachel L. Halmi of Pittsburgh, Christy Bruce of McCandles Township; a nephew Chaz Bruce; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Friends of Ashley Kay Bruce, 17, of Avella, will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. The family requests memorial donations to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, 3705 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
