Homemaker enjoyed spending time with family Betty Jane Byrd, 81, of Washington, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born October 2, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of William and Hazel Mounts Wise. Mrs. Byrd was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and all of her family and going to Las Vegas, Nev. She was Protestant. Mrs. Byrd was married three times. Her first husband was Paul Russell, her second was James Riggans and her third was John Henry Byrd. All of her husbands are deceased. Surviving are six sons, James Riggans of Washington, Dennis Riggans of Mansfield, Ohio, Jonathan Riggans of Washington, Kevin Riggans of Washington, John Byrd of Claysville and Henry Byrd of Washington; six daughters, Shirley Ann Chaffin of San Diego, Calif., Linda Wolfe-Sheppard of Mansfield, Pauline Bird, Suzanne Riggans, Deborah Riggans and Jeanette Phillips, all of Washington; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, Clarence Wise, Albert Wise and Kenneth Wise; a granddaughter, Theresa Murphy; and a great-grandson, John Riggle. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26. Interment to follow in Washington Cemetery, North Franklin Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
