Jack H. Kiger, 79, of Washington, died Thursday, December 6, 2007, in his residence. He had been in declining health for the last four years.
He was born April 22, 1926, in Waynesburg, a son of Herman Holland and Edith Phillips Kiger.
During World War II, Mr. Kiger served in the Army Air Force, 20th Bombardment Squadron, 2nd Bombardment Group, as an aerial gunner. He participated in campaigns in Northern Apennines, Central Europe, Po Valley and Rhineland. For his service, he earned an Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was honorable discharged on March 9, 1946, with a rank of sergeant.
Mr. Kiger was a horseman, driver, trainer and self-employed farrier. He once worked for Delvin Miller and Bob McCarrell.
Mr. Kiger was a member of Meadowlands United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and his grandchildren.
On November 29, 1947, he married Alberta “Bertie” Reynolds, who died June 23, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Richard R. (Ellie) Kiger, of Rough Creek; three daughters, Hazel Bradshaw of Meadowlands, Cynie (Joel) Murray of Patagonia, Arizona, and Jackie (John) Butenschoen of Marengo, Illinois; a sister, Betty J. White of Rough Creek; six grandchildren, Julie Dille, Jennifer Bradshaw, Jessica Bradshaw, Amanda Thorsen, Sara Kiger and Tyler Butenschoen; and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Mibby Kiger; a grandson, Sean Butenschoen; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in Meadowlands United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2007.
