John Molinko

February 24, 1919 — September 9, 2002

WW II veteran was miner at Mathis Mine John Molinko, 83, of Washington, died Monday, September 9, 2002, in Aspinwall VA Hospice following a lengthy illness. He was born February 24, 1919, in Mollenaur, a son of Louis and Margaret Drotos Molinko. Mr. Molinko was a retired coal miner who worked for 40 years in Mathis Mine. He was Catholic. Mr. Molinko served Army during WW II in Rhineland and Central European Theater with the 298th Engineer Combat Battalion. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. In October 1950, he married Katherine Wisnosky, who died December 20, 1963. He later married Mildred Pentland, who died in October of 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Marie Waraksa of Washington; two stepsons, Murray Pentland of Louisiana and Irwin Pentland of Florida; two brothers, Louis Milinko of Canonsburg and Joe Sprence of Canonsburg; and a sister, Betty Dukis of Canonsburg. Deceased are a sister, Margaret Demark; and a brother, Steve Sprence. MOLINKO - Friends of John Molinko of Washington, who died Monday, September 9, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 12. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
