Virginia Mary Cox

Virginia Mary Hamilton Cox, 90, of Washington, died November 21, 2007, in Greenery Skilled Nursing Center. She was born August 26, 1917, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of William Raymond and Mary Rose Bruchbacker Hamilton. In 1944, she moved to the United States and took a job as a secretary in the Australian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where she worked for two years. After her marriage, she moved to New York City and worked for two years for the Australian Delegate to the United Nations. In 1950, she and her husband moved to the Hawaiian Islands, where she acquired her U. S. citizenship. She also lived in San Francisco for two years prior to returning to Washington. D.C. Mrs. Cox moved to Washington, Pennsylvania in 1988. She was raised in the Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. Cox was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, shopping and fine dining. On June 22, 1946, she married Edward Joseph Cox, who died October 20, 1952. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara M. Clutter, and a granddaughter, Kaitlin Lee Clutter, both of Prosperity. Deceased are a son-in-law, John B. Clutter; and two brothers, Ernest and William Hamilton. Friends will be received Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., the hour of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd. 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Kenneth Schott officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105..
