Served in the Coast Guard during World War II
Roy Joseph Mantia, 87, of Washington, formerly of Wolfdale, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born December 10, 1914, in Washington, a son of Sam and Mary Battaglia Mantia.
Mr. Mantia was Catholic.
He was employed as an administrative officer for the state Department of Public Welfare for 33 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Mantia was a 1936 graduate of Washington High School.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
On August 30, 1946, he married Myrtle Violetta Sickels, who died December 6, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Pettit of Washington; four grandchildren, Dorothy L. Warne, Susan V. Murphy, Saundra D. Callender and Michael J. Pettit; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Tracy Dean Pettit; and three brothers, August, Joe and Charles Mantia.
MANTIA - Friends of Roy Joseph Mantia of Washington, formerly of Wolfdale, who died Friday, July 5, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Entombment will be in Washington Cemetery Serenity Mausoleum. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
