WWII veteran worked at Washington Hospital
William McGruder, 77, of Washington, died Saturday, November 16, 2002, in Kade's Nursing Home, Washington, following a brief illness.
He was born January 13, 1925, in Monessen.
Mr. McGruder worked more than 20 years in the Washington Hospital maintenance department.
He was a member of Emmanual Tabernacle Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On April 28, 1970, he married Ruth O. Garrison, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James McGruder of Flint, Mich., and William Garrison of Palmdale, Calif.; three daughters, Alice Smith of Flint, Sharon Nesmith of Blackwood, N.J., and Lanita Chambers of Merced, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Robert McGruder and Stanley Paul Garrison; a daughter, Johnnie Ray McGruder; a brother, George McGruder; and two sisters, Margaret McGruder and Catherine Smith.
McGRUDER - At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation for William McGruder of Washington, who died Saturday, November 16, 2002. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. James C. Cherry Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
