John Hammond

Retired from Brockway Plant 7 John Hammond, 95, of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Thomas Campbell Apartments, 850 Beech Street, Washington, died Thursday, October 31, 2002, in St. Mary's Hospital, Rogers. He was born August 2, 1907, in Scott Haven, a son of William Hutson and Elizabeth McCartney Hammond. Mr. Hammond was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church in Washington. He retired from Tygart Valley Glass Brockway Plant 7 after 40 years of employment. He was employed at Thomas Campbell Apartments for 25 years. Mr. Hammond did volunteer work until he was 92 and served as president of the local glassworkers union. On September 22, 1928, he married Sarah Ann Jones, who died June 18, 1994. Surviving are a son, John Hammond of Rogers, Ark., with whom he made his home; seven grandchildren, Sharon Harps, Risa DeWalt, Paul, Keith and Kevin Hammond, Nancy Martin and Darlene Williams; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hammond was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are a son, William Hammond; and four sisters, Alvaretia McCullough, Pearl Etta Reynard, Bertha Huber and Mary Jane Hammond. HAMMOND - Friends of John Hammond of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Thomas Campbell Apartments, 850 Beech Street, Washington, who died Thursday, October 31, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., the hour of services, Monday, November 4, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Robert Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
