Elmay B. McVehil, 80, of Slidell, Louisiana, formerly of Washington, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at home. She was born on November 11, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of Loring Lonzo and Anna May Wheeler Medlen. Mrs. McVehil had worked in both the Washington and Canonsburg area’s for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse having last worked for Dr. Tripoli. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Ladies Auxiliary at Post # 175 of the American Legion, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing and crafting.
Her first husband, William Evans is deceased. Her second husband, Jack McVehil died in 1996.
Surviving are a son, Bill Evans of Brownsville and a step-son Mark McVehil of Washington; two daughters, Patricia Loraine Griffin of Carson City,, Nevada, and Joyce Lander, with whom she made her home; four brothers, Harold, LeRoy, Kenneth, and James Medlen; four sisters, Bernice Montgomery, Pearl Hutter, and Barbara Wood; Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Albert , Loring and Melvin Medlen; and three sisters, Mary Hall, Alice Carpenter and Angeline Myers.
Friends of Elmay B. McVehil will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at 1 pm, Rev. Larry Wade, her nephew,
officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to : Hospice Care of Louisiana ,770 Gause Blvd. ,
