Former commissioner of Girl Scouts of America
Leota Rettinger Eakin, 96, of Washington, died Thursday, October 17, 2002, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.
She was born March 2, 1906, in Washington County, a daughter of George H. and Sarah Shirey Rettinger.
Mrs. Eakin was a homemaker and a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Washington.
She was a former commissioner of Girl Scouts of America, a member of Order of Eastern Star, Bethesda White Shrine and African Violet Society.
On September 17, 1925, she married Fay K. Eakin, who died February 2, 1967.
Surviving are a son, Fay K. Eakin Jr. of Washington; a daughter, Dolores Eakin Clark of Washington; five grandchildren, Wesley F. and Bruce K. Eakin, Jill E. DeYoung and William J. and Linda L. Clark; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, George H. Rettinger Jr.; and three sisters, Seanie Jamison, Celia McConnell and Dorothy Jacobs.
EAKIN - Friends of Leota Rettinger Eakin of Washington, who died Thursday, October 17, 2002, will be received from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, with the Rev. Edward Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Faith United Presbyterian Church Building Fund or North Buffalo Church.
