Harness racing fan from Washington
Joseph "the Governor" Urbanik, 80, of Washington, died Thursday, October 17, 2002, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born July 8, 1922, in Washington, a son of Frank and Helen Jackson Urbanik.
Mr. Urbanik was Catholic.
He formerly worked at Hazel Atlas No. 2, a shipyard in San Francisco, Chrysler plant in Detroit and Canonsburg Metal, later known as Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp.
Mr. Urbanik was an avid harness racing fan and closely followed local men's softball leagues.
Surviving are a son, Jack Horner Jr. of Lilburn, Ga.; two daughters, Cynthia Wunderlich of Jasper, Ind., and Janis Kirchner of Buford, Ga.; two brothers, John and Daniel Urbanik of Washington; eight grandchildren, Michelle Ostrosky, Stephanie, Stephen and Lindsay Dulaney, Jerod and Justin Horner and C.J. and Natalie Kirchner; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Frances Seudro and Clara Katz; and a brother, Emil Urbanik.
URBANIK - Friends of Joseph "the Governor" Urbanik of Washington, who died Thursday, October 17, 2002, will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 19, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, followed at 1:30 p.m. by graveside services in Washington Cemetery, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. The family requests donations to Donnell House, Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301; or a charity of one's choice.
