Mary Helen Allison Smith, 84, of Washington, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002, in the home of her daughter, following a brief illness.
She was born April 13, 1918, in Canton Township, a daughter of George D. and Myrtle M. Miller Allison.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Third United Presbyterian Church in Washington.
She was a 1936 graduate of Trinity High School.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Washington Chapter 409 Order of Eastern Star, where she was past matron in 1947 and 1948. She also was a former member of Washington Hospital Auxiliary.
In the 1960s and 1970s, she was manager of Ash Hat Shop in Washington.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling, quilting and gardening.
She was a recipient of American Legion Award in the eighth grade at McClay School.
On October 5, 1936, she married James D. (J.D.) Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Elaine M. Patton of West Middletown and Joyce D McCracken of Washington; four grandchildren, Joni Patton Paviol, Janice Patton Yoskovich, William McCracken and Melia McCracken Oddi; seven great-grandchildren; five nephews; and a niece.
Deceased are two brothers, Paul and Rex Allison; and two sisters, Wilda Taggart and Margaret Taggart.
SMITH - Friends of Mary Helen Allison Smith of Washington, who died Thursday, December 26, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon until 2 p.m., the hour of service, Sunday, December 29, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, with the Rev. Leslie Shoup officiating. Interment will be in Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Third United Presbyterian Church, 22 Cortez Drive, Washington, PA 15301.
