Claysville resident enjoyed flea markets
Robert Lester Garrett, 81, of Claysville, died at 11:11 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2002, in his home.
He was born July 4, 1921, in Bellview, a son of Joseph and Julia Langenbacher Garrett.
Mr. Garrett was a self-employed contractor and craftsman and had been a resident of Claysville for 31 years.
He attended Washington schools.
During World War II, Mr. Garrett served in Company A of the 398th Military Police Battalion in Normandy, Northern France and the Ardennes from January 1943 until January 1946.
He enjoyed going to flea markets.
On May 30, 1946, he married Mae Viola Stage, who died October 13, 1990.
His companion was Rose Ardeno Skariot of Washington.
Surviving are six sons, Glen Robert and John W. Garrett, both of Claysville, Dennis James and Barry Keith Garrett, both of Washington, and Timothy B. and Robert D. (Bud) Garrett, both at home; two daughters, Sandra Gomez and Linda McGowan, both of Washington; two brothers, Raymond Garrett of Bremerton, Wash., and James R. Garrett of Washington; a sister, Mildred Mitzy Levato of Washington; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and an aunt.
Deceased are a son, Robert Garrett, who died in infancy; a grandson, Joseph Robert Gomez, who died in infancy; two brothers, William and Ronald E. Garrett; and two sisters, Mary Jane Garrett and Virginia Stewart.
GARRETT - Friends of Robert Lester Garrett of Claysville, who died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, with the Rev. Mary Sprowls officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded at graveside by James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639 of Claysville.
