WWII veteran employed by American Bridgeworks
Homer Franklin "Pappy" Winters, 84, of Washington, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002, in Washington Hospital.
He was born September 7, 1918, in Rea, a son of Creatus and Cynthia Rodgers Winters.
Mr. Winters was a member of Friendship Community Church and had been employed by Sheffler Plant of American Bridgeworks in Pittsburgh for 18 years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.
On October 13, 1945, he married Helen Lucy Ruse, who died September 15, 1991.
Surviving are four sons, Franklin Homer Winters, James Edward Winters, David Lee Winters and Robert Creatus Winters, all of Washington; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Homer Franklin Winters; six sisters, Mary Ellen McKim, Elizabeth Rebecca Jane White, Maude Miller, Goldie Williams, Elda Kirshner and Roxie Liggett; and four brothers, George Washington Winters, LeRoy Winters, Brady Winters and Robert Winters.
WINTERS - Friends of Homer Franklin "Pappy" Winters of Washington, who died Thursday, December 26, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 30, followed by interment in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
