Senior citizens volunteer enjoyed ceramics
Helen Teresa LaVelle, 89, of Washington, died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2002, in her home.
She was born February 20, 1913, in Grafton, W.Va., a daughter of Peter J. and Mary Ellen Devore Schmalz.
Mrs. LaVelle was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington.
She was formerly employed by Community Market, A&P and Washington County Courthouse.
Mrs. LaVelle volunteered for Senior Citizens and helped serve meals.
She enjoyed ceramics and won many awards.
On June 9, 1936, she married Theodore Walter LaVelle, who died August 7, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Joseph LaVelle of Washington and Lawrence Joseph LaVelle of Prosperity; two grandchildren, Ashley Ann LaVelle and Robert Joseph Trozzi; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Dorothy Mae Flinn, Mary Lucille Schmalz and Edith M. Schmalz; and two brothers, Richard D. and Peter G. Schmalz.
LaVELLE - Friends of Helen Teresa LaVelle of Washington, who died Wednesday, December 18, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 21, followed by interment in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
